A lot of stone beads for stringing are cut in China today that China is quite greatly represented. However for faceted gems, you could count on the East Indians. The guts Eastern countries wear a great show with beautiful lapis lazuli and serpentine (a stone related to jade) jewelry. Africa is represented with wonderful ethnic beads and jewellery. Trade beads predominate, but additionally, there are metal beads and pendants. If Australian opals are the passion, you'll find those, also.
Austria and Czechoslovakia also make an appearance. The former with beautiful leaded glass beads and sculptures in most kinds of colors and shapes. Rogues with sand in every hue of the rainbow and each shape imaginable.
Jewelry and supplies to make jewelry aren't the sole things you will see there. The Russians always bring wonderful art together in addition to diamonds. Hand carved Santa Clauses and nesting dolls abound. You can also get small gem carvings and greater statuary. I remember 12 months just being swept away with a carving of the eagle carried out Ruby Zoisite. It should have been at least three feet from wing tip to wing tip. In keeping with its name, you can find mineral specimens for your die hard collector.
Most of the venues will permit the hobbyist to go to. However, the majority are made for the jewelry designers, manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers. These require certain credentials for admittance. It is a wise decision to get that settled in advance.
If you're able to attend only 1 of the shows, I would recommend attending the larger of the two. Don't anticipate setting it up all done in a single day, but do have an agenda. Printed and on-line show guides will show you who definitely are there and where they will be. Map out in places you wish to go. Don't spend your entire money on the first day in the first venue. Look around a bit first and take notes of what you saw where you first viewed it. If you find that you may want to attend, but require more information, just type "Tucson Gem and Mineral Show" into your search box. Plenty of information will appear.
